Behind the Seams

How every Nix Nax piece comes to life.

Every Nix Nax piece begins long before the final stitch. From carefully selected fabrics and original artwork to thoughtful construction and finishing details, each creation is made slowly, intentionally, and by hand in my studio in St Francis Bay.

Every Step Matters

Fabric Selection

Every fabric is chosen for its colour quality and character.

Original Artwork

Hand-drawn and hand-painted mandalas.

Handmade Construction

Every piece is carefully cut, sewn and assembled in small batches.

Thoughtful Finishing

Tassels, trims and finishing touches are all added by hand.

Packaged with Care

Carefully wrapped and beautifully prepared.

Thoughtfully chosen materials

I believe beautiful products begin with beautiful materials. Every fabric, trim and finishing detail is carefully selected with quality, character and longevity in mind.

I work primarily with designer cotton quilting fabrics, hemp and natural fibre details, choosing materials that not only look beautiful but also feel special to use. Fabrics are sourced in small quantities from independent suppliers and selected for their unique colours, patterns and craftsmanship.

Because many fabrics are purchased in limited runs, some fabrics are used only once, making every piece a little more unique. This approach allows me to create small collections that feel personal and distinctive, while reducing excess and celebrating the beauty of thoughtfully made goods.

The materials used in every Nix Nax piece are chosen to bring together practicality, creativity and lasting quality.

Four Layers of Thoughtful Design

Nix Nax bags are designed to be both beautiful and practical. Each bag is carefully constructed using multiple layers that create structure, durability and longevity while still feeling soft and comfortable to use.

  • Outer cotton fabric
  • Interfacing for structure
  • Inner stabilising layers
  • Cotton lining

Each layer plays an important role in helping the bag keep its shape and stand up to everyday use.

The result is a bag that feels soft, holds its shape beautifully and is made to last.

One Bag. One Story.

Unlike mass-produced accessories, all Nix Nax bags are completely unique pieces using fabric purchased in small batches. There is only one of each bag made, meaning each bag carries its own story.

The result is something personal, practical and unique - made to be used, enjoyed and loved every day.

From Sketch to Artwork

Alongside the bags, Nicole creates original mandala artworks entirely by hand.

Each artwork begins as a detailed drawing before being carefully painted layer by layer.

Every artwork is an original piece - never digitally generated, mass-produced or recreated.

Only one exists.

The Finishing Touches

The smallest details often take the longest.

Many tassels, lipstick holders and accessories are handmade for each piece, ensuring they blend beautifully with the colours.

Some beads on the tassels are hand-painted, while tassels are assembled by hand.

These finishing details ensure every Nix Nax piece feels personal and unique.
